    Alex Meraz fait ses débuts sur grand écran en 2005 dans Le Nouveau monde de Terrence Malick, un premier long métrange avec un réalisateur de renom qui ne lui ouvrira cependant pas les portes d'Hollywood, puisqu'entre 2005 et 2009 l'acteur tournera seulement dans un court métrage (Two Spirits, One Journey) et quelques épisodes de séries.

    Il faudra attendre que le réalisateur Chris Weitz monte sa troupe de loup-garous pour les besoins de Twilight - Chapitre 2 : tentation pour voir l'acteur de nouveau à l'écran. Dans le second volet de la saga, Alex Meraz incarne Paul, un Quileute. Un rôle que celui-ci reprend en 2010 dans Twilight - Chapitre 3 : hésitation et plus tard dans Twilight - Chapitre 4 : révélation. Dès lors, Alex Meraz décroche des rôles un peu plus consistants dans des longs métrages puisque celui-ci joue dans le drame The City of Gardens et donne la réplique à Ray Liotta dans Savage Innocent de Larry Clark.
